Can False Teeth be Permanently Glued In?

July 8, 2024

When it comes to restoring smiles, dental prosthetics play a crucial role. Many patients seek reliable, long-term solutions for missing teeth, often wondering, "Can false teeth be permanently glued in?" The answer might surprise you. There isn't a scenario where traditional dentures are permanently glued to your gums. However, modern dentistry offers a revolutionary alternative: implant-supported dentures. These dentures provide a secure and permanent solution for missing teeth, replicating the look and feel of natural teeth.

At Sunflower Dental Spa, we specialize in the latest advancements in dental technology to ensure our patients receive the best care possible. In this post, we will explore how implant-supported dentures work and why they are the superior choice for a permanent solution to missing teeth.

What are False Teeth?

False teeth, commonly known as dentures, are personalized prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth. They can be conveniently removed and reinserted into your mouth as needed. Traditionally, dentures rest on the gums and rely on adhesives for stability. However, advancements in dental technology have introduced several more permanent and secure options for those seeking a more reliable solution.

Types of False Teeth

Conventional Full Dentures

Conventional full dentures are designed for individuals who have lost all their teeth in the upper or lower jaw. These dentures rest directly on the gums and need to be removed for daily cleaning. While they provide a complete replacement for natural teeth, they may sometimes feel less stable due to their reliance on the gums for support.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures are ideal for patients who still have some of their natural teeth remaining. These dentures fill in the gaps left by missing teeth and are typically held in place by clasps that attach to the adjacent natural teeth. This type of denture helps restore the functionality and appearance of your smile and prevents the remaining teeth from shifting.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures represent a significant advancement in denture stability and comfort. These dentures are anchored to dental implants, which are small titanium posts surgically placed into the jawbone. The implants provide a secure and stable foundation for the dentures, ensuring they stay in place without the need for adhesives. This option offers a more natural feel and improved chewing ability than traditional dentures.

Fixed Bridges

Fixed bridges are another effective solution for replacing one or more missing teeth. Unlike dentures, bridges are permanently anchored by attaching to the adjacent natural teeth or dental implants. This method involves placing crowns on the neighboring teeth and connecting a false tooth (or teeth) between them. Fixed bridges provide a durable and stable solution, offering the look and function of natural teeth without the need for removal.

So, Can False Teeth be Permanently Glued In?

The concept of "gluing in" false teeth typically refers to the use of adhesives or bonding agents to secure dentures or dental prosthetics. However, traditional denture adhesives are not designed for permanent attachment. Instead, dental implants and implant-supported dentures offer a more permanent solution.

Implant-Supported Dentures: A Permanent Alternative

Implant-supported dentures offer a game-changing solution for those seeking a permanent alternative to traditional "glued-in" dentures. This innovative approach utilizes dental implants, which are small titanium posts surgically placed in the jawbone. These implants act as artificial tooth roots, providing a stable foundation for dentures.

Here's how implant-supported dentures work

  • Implant Placement: Dental implants are strategically placed in the jawbone during a minor surgical procedure. The number of implants used depends on the specific needs of your case.
  • Osseointegration: Over a period of several months, the jawbone fuses with the implants in a process called osseointegration. This creates a strong and stable foundation for the dentures.
  • Attachment of Dentures: Once osseointegration is complete, custom-made dentures are securely attached to the implants using various attachment mechanisms, such as ball-and-socket joints or bars.

Types of Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-Overdentures

These dentures clip or snap onto strategically placed implants, offering significantly improved stability compared to traditional dentures. They're often removable for cleaning but feel much more secure in the mouth.

Fixed Implant-Supported Dentures (Bridge)

This option involves attaching a permanent bridge of artificial teeth directly to dental implants. This creates a fixed restoration that functions similarly to natural teeth and eliminates the need for removal.

Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures

Implant-supported dentures offer numerous advantages over traditional dentures:

  • Enhanced Stability: Implants fuse with the jawbone, preventing denture slippage and providing a natural biting and chewing experience.
  • Improved Confidence: No more worrying about dentures slipping during conversations or meals. Enjoy a worry-free smile!
  • Preserved Bone Health: Implants stimulate the jawbone, preventing bone loss and maintaining facial structure.
  • Long-Term Durability: Implants are incredibly strong and can last a lifetime with proper care.
  • Improved Oral Health: The secure fit makes cleaning easier, minimizes the risk of infection, and promotes good oral hygiene.

Is a Permanent Denture Solution Right for You?

Implant-supported dentures offer superior stability and function compared to traditional dentures. However, they require a surgical procedure and may involve a higher initial investment.

Here are some factors to consider when deciding if implant-supported dentures are right for you:

  • Overall Health: You should be in good general health for implant surgery.
  • Jawbone Health: Sufficient bone density is necessary for successful implant placement. Bone grafting procedures may be required in some cases.
  • Commitment to Oral Hygiene: Maintaining excellent oral hygiene is crucial for the long-term success of implants and dentures.
  • Financial Considerations: Discuss the cost of implant-supported dentures with your dentist and explore potential financing options.

Seriously the most kind, caring, thorough dentist I have ever been to. Dr. Wetmore was kind and attentive to my anxiety while at the same time making sure I was comfortable through a long drilling for a crown and very thorough making sure I was numb enough and the bite would be just right. I struggle with self care and this is the first dentist in my life where I wasn't shamed for it. And even though I was scared for the procedure I felt so safe here. Awesome place! The front desk staff, hygienist I saw and assistants were all super skilled and amazing too. Thanks ladies!

Sunflower Dental Spa is for me the FIRST Dental Office that I enjoy going to. I walk in and I am greeted by, 3 Wonderful Ladies with Beautiful Smiles. And even though they know that I can never remember their names, they know mine.
Rachel, my Dental Hygienist, took me back to begin my cleaning... Well at my last cleaning, I misunderstood something that she told me... so this time I asked her to please show me... and she did.
Once Rachel finished, she went and told my Wonderful and Most Excellent Dentist, Dr. Justin Lieneck that it was his turn to come in and check out my teeth. As Justin is checking out my teeth, I asked him, "Do the look okay? You are taking an awfully long time..."
Justin said, "I'm checking each one of them...but I don't see cavities." That isn't exactly what he said, but I can't remember word for word, like I used too.
But if you are looking for a place to go that will take care of your Teeth.... I Highly recommend Sunflower Dental Spa 🌻

It’s hard to put my appreciation into words. Dr. Wetmore and her staff were so helpful and welcoming. They were able to work with my insurance and I to go from consultation to surgery in less than a month, and for half the price I was quoted from Aspen. I was very nervous going into the surgery and amount of extractions I needed but was put at ease with all of the commendations they offered. I highly recommended the laughing gas for anyone that feels the same way. The entire surgery was painless, completely painless and took about two hours. It’s now one day post op and other than some soreness I have never felt better. Sunflower dental deserves all the praise they get in these reviews. Truly an amazing experience. I am so grateful.
