Gum Disease Treatment In Rockledge, FL

Gum Disease Treatment

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a prevalent oral health concern affecting millions of Americans. It's caused by a buildup of plaque and tartar at the gumline, which irritates the gums and leads to inflammation. Gum disease can progress and damage the underlying bone structure if left untreated, eventually leading to tooth loss.

At Sunflower Dental Spa, your comfort and oral health are our top priorities. Our team of experienced dentists in Rockledge, FL, offers comprehensive gum disease treatment plans tailored to your specific needs.

What is Gum Disease?

Gum disease is an inflammation of the gums caused by plaque buildup, a sticky film containing bacteria, at the gum line. If plaque isn't removed regularly through brushing and flossing, it can harden into tartar (calculus), which further irritates the gums. This irritation leads to the following stages of gum disease:

Gingivitis: This is the mildest form of gum disease. Symptoms may include red, swollen, or bleeding gums. Gingivitis is reversible with proper oral hygiene practices and professional dental cleanings.

Periodontitis: If gingivitis is left untreated, it can progress to periodontitis. In this stage, the inflammation spreads to the underlying bone and ligaments that support your teeth. This can lead to bone loss, loose teeth, and even tooth loss.

What is Gum Disease Treatment?

Gum disease treatment involves a diverse array of dental procedures to combat infection within the oral cavity and repair tissues damaged by periodontal (gum) disease. Typically performed by periodontists and specialists in gum health, these procedures are crucial for restoring oral wellness. However, general dentists may also address milder cases of gum disease.

Early intervention is key to mitigating the effects of gum disease and preserving long-term oral health. During the initial stage, known as gingivitis, gum disease is reversible. However, as the condition progresses to periodontitis, it damages the gums and underlying bone structure. This deterioration leads to periodontal pockets around the teeth, fostering further infection, tooth mobility, and potential tooth loss.

Symptoms of Gum Disease

Here are some signs and symptoms of gum disease to watch out for:

Red, swollen, or tender gums

Bleeding gums, especially when brushing or flossing

Persistent bad breath (halitosis)

Receding gums

Loose teeth

Changes in the way your teeth fit together

Pus between your teeth and gums

At Sunflower Dental Spa, we believe in taking a proactive approach to gum disease treatment. When you visit our clinic for gum disease treatment in Rockledge, FL, you can expect a comprehensive oral health evaluation, including a thorough examination of your gums, teeth, and supporting structures. Professional Dental Cleaning

Our dental hygienists will thoroughly clean your teeth and gums to remove plaque and tartar buildup, reduce inflammation, and prevent the progression of gum disease.

Scaling & Root Planing

Once gum disease progresses beyond the initial stages of gingivitis, professional intervention becomes imperative to halt the infection's spread. This involves a meticulous deep cleaning procedure known as scaling and root planing, which comprises two essential steps to foster gum healing and minimize the likelihood of reinfection. Scaling targets the removal of plaque and tartar from both above and below the gum line, whereas root planing focuses on smoothing tooth roots, facilitating better reattachment to the gums.

Chao Pinhole Technique

We are thrilled to introduce the Chao Pinhole Technique at our dental office. As pioneers in offering this innovative treatment in Fresno, we're excited to bring remarkable results to our patients. This technique addresses significant plaque buildup on teeth with unparalleled precision. By delicately creating a tiny hole in the gum tissue, we gain access to targeted areas of the mouth.

This allows us to gently loosen the gum tissue and alleviate the necessity for extensive treatments such as gum grafting or surgery. Particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with severe gum disease and exposed tooth roots, this technique offers a minimally invasive solution for restoring oral health and preserving the natural beauty of your smile.

FAQs

How common is gum disease treatment?

Gum disease treatments rank high among the frequently administered dental procedures. Across the United States, nearly half of adults aged 30 or older contend with various stages of gum disease. Approximately 9% of adults in the U.S. require advanced gum disease treatment.

How long will it take to recover from gum disease treatment?

The recovery time varies depending on the treatment you undergo. If you opt for scaling and root planing, you can typically resume your regular activities without any downtime. However, the recovery period may range from one to four weeks for more extensive procedures aimed at addressing advanced periodontal disease, such as flap surgery, bone grafts, or gum grafts.

Can I cure gum disease without a dentist?

Gum disease poses a unique challenge—it's not curable but manageable. However, effective management requires professional intervention from a dentist or periodontist. This is because bacteria penetrate deep beneath the gum surface, beyond the reach of brushing and flossing alone.

While diligent oral hygiene efforts can potentially slow down the destructive process, they can't fully address the underlying issues. Professional treatment is essential for proper management and ensuring long-term oral health.

Seriously the most kind, caring, thorough dentist I have ever been to. Dr. Wetmore was kind and attentive to my anxiety while at the same time making sure I was comfortable through a long drilling for a crown and very thorough making sure I was numb enough and the bite would be just right. I struggle with self care and this is the first dentist in my life where I wasn't shamed for it. And even though I was scared for the procedure I felt so safe here. Awesome place! The front desk staff, hygienist I saw and assistants were all super skilled and amazing too. Thanks ladies!

Sunflower Dental Spa is for me the FIRST Dental Office that I enjoy going to. I walk in and I am greeted by, 3 Wonderful Ladies with Beautiful Smiles. And even though they know that I can never remember their names, they know mine.
Rachel, my Dental Hygienist, took me back to begin my cleaning... Well at my last cleaning, I misunderstood something that she told me... so this time I asked her to please show me... and she did.
Once Rachel finished, she went and told my Wonderful and Most Excellent Dentist, Dr. Justin Lieneck that it was his turn to come in and check out my teeth. As Justin is checking out my teeth, I asked him, "Do the look okay? You are taking an awfully long time..."
Justin said, "I'm checking each one of them...but I don't see cavities." That isn't exactly what he said, but I can't remember word for word, like I used too.
But if you are looking for a place to go that will take care of your Teeth.... I Highly recommend Sunflower Dental Spa 🌻
Excellent team and dental care .

It’s hard to put my appreciation into words. Dr. Wetmore and her staff were so helpful and welcoming. They were able to work with my insurance and I to go from consultation to surgery in less than a month, and for half the price I was quoted from Aspen. I was very nervous going into the surgery and amount of extractions I needed but was put at ease with all of the commendations they offered. I highly recommended the laughing gas for anyone that feels the same way. The entire surgery was painless, completely painless and took about two hours. It’s now one day post op and other than some soreness I have never felt better. Sunflower dental deserves all the praise they get in these reviews. Truly an amazing experience. I am so grateful.
