All on 4 Dental Implants IN

SUNFLOWER DENTAL SPA

All-on-4 Dental Implants

Conventional dentures were one of the first treatment options for patients who were missing all of their teeth. However, while effective, these treatment options came with several disadvantages, including slipping and sliding around in the mouth when eating, talking, laughing, etc.
Eventually, dental implants began to be used, which was a more stable option. Each tooth was replaced with a dental implant which was inserted into the jawbone. This allowed patients to confidently eat, talk, laugh, etc. However, the problem with this option is affordability. Each implant can cost up to $6,000 and full-mouth implants can cost up to $40,000.

All-on-4 dental implants is a hybrid solution that combines the stability of dental implants with the affordability of dentures. If you need to replace most or all of your teeth in one or both arches, All-on-4 at Sunflower Dental Spa might be a great option for you. In fact, Dr. Barbara Wetmore and Dr. Justin Lieneck have the experience and expertise to perform several dental restoration procedures.

You've lost a tooth, or perhaps several. Chewing is difficult and smiling, well it's too embarrassing. There is no question that the quality of your life has changed. Dental implants are the solution to renewing your smile, your chewing ability and quite frankly your quality of life.

All-on-4 Dental Implants Treatment Concept

The concept behind All-on-4 dental implant treatment is that a full arch of teeth can be replaced with only 4 dental implants. In this restoration procedure, 4 dental implants are placed in the jaw: 2 in the front and 2 in the back. The 2 rear implants are placed at an angle, which provides enough stability to restore the natural bite force.

Advantages of All-on-4 Dental Implants

There are several advantages of All-on-4 dental implants, including:
Aesthetics
Conventional dentures often look artificial because they are bulky and, depending on the material used, may look like plastic. However, All-on-4 dental implants is not a standard, one-size-fits-all treatment. Your permanent prosthesis is designed to fit you and to match any remaining teeth. Therefore, it will look natural.
Durability
While it seems that conventional dentures are more affordable, you will need to replace them every 10 years or so. All-on-4 dental implants, on the other hand, is a much more durable option. The implants themselves are designed to last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. The prosthetic may need to be replaced after about 20 years- but may also last much longer with proper care and maintenance.
Cost Savings
Conventional dentures are affordable- but must be replaced- so, every few years, you're having to spend money again on your restoration. Dental implants can cost up to $40,000+ for a full-mouth restoration. However, All-on-4 dental implants is designed to replace an entire arch for around $16,000. Since this restoration is durable, you won't have to worry about spending more on your restoration for a very long time.

Cost of All-on-4 Dental Implants

The average cost of All-on-4 dental implants is approximately $16,000 per arch, or $32,000 for both. This depends on several factors including:

The number of arches needed
Additional procedures required
Complexity of the procedure
Providers credentials and experience
Location of the clinic
Materials used for implants and prosthesis
Anesthesia

Eligibility for All-on-4 Dental Implants

It is important to note that, while most patients at Sunflower Dental Spa qualify for All-on-4 treatment, not everyone will. The patients that most often qualify include:
Patients missing multiple teeth
If you are missing most or all of your teeth in one or both arches, All-on-4 dental implants may be the best option for you.
Patients with poor jawbone structure
Typically, patients need adequate jawbone structure/density for dental implants- but since the rear implants are placed at an angle, patients can get away with some jawbone loss.

All-on-4 Dental Implants Procedure: What to Expect

The very first step in any procedure at Sunflower Dental Spa is the initial consultation. At this time, we will perform a comprehensive exam, including x-rays. This will help us to determine if you are a candidate for All-on-4 as well as the best place to insert the implants.
If you believe that All-on-4 treatment is right for you, here's what you can expect:

The preparation step will look different from one patient to the next. Some patients can go straight to the implant placement, while others require additional procedures including extractions or gum disease treatment. After these procedures are complete, an impression will be taken to be sent to the lab for the fabrication of your permanent prosthetic.

All-on-4 is known as "teeth in a day" because everything can typically be done in the same appointment. First, the implants will be placed. This involves making an incision in the gum and drilling a hole in the jawbone. Then, the abutment will be placed on the implants, which is the piece that secures the prosthetic to the implants to hold it in place. Finally, a temporary prosthetic will be placed on the implants.
You will wear the temporary prosthetic for several months to allow your jawbone time to osseointegrate with the implants. Once this is complete, your permanent prosthesis can be placed.

All-on-4 Dental Implants Aftercare

Dr. Wetmore and Dr. Lieneck will give you specific instructions at the time of your procedure, but as a general rule, the following aftercare instructions apply:
Once the implants heal and your permanent prosthetic is in place, you will care for your restoration just like your natural teeth. Brush twice daily and floss at least once. You can use alcohol-free mouthwash if you wish. However, while you are wearing the temporary prosthesis, you'll need to take care that you don't disturb the implants and cause them to shift.
For the first few days, you may want to stick to a liquid diet because you may have some minor discomfort. After a few days, you can transition to a soft foods diet, which you will need to continue for a few weeks. When you feel ready, you can begin to add more solid foods back into your diet.
For the first few days, and possibly weeks, you'll want to avoid strenuous activities. You want to let your body rest so that your mouth can heal.

Risks and Complications of All-on-4 Dental Implants

There are a few risks and complications associated with All-on-4 dental implants, including:
Infection
As you would expect from any surgical procedure, there is a risk of infection. This is typically due to improper aftercare. In order to avoid infection, it is critical that you follow aftercare instructions, including proper oral hygiene habits.
Nerve Damage
If you work with a surgeon that is not familiar with the proper protocols for this surgery, you risk nerve damage. When performing the prep procedures or placing the implants, the surgeon may sever a nerve.
Unfavorable Healing
This may be due to the inexperience of the surgeon or improper care. If the surgeon does not place the implants properly, your jawbone will not be able to heal properly. Also, if you do not take care of your restoration, you risk unfavorable healing. Ultimately, this can lead to implant failure.
