Scaling and Root Planing In Rockledge, FL

Scaling and Root Planing in Rockledge, FL

Periodontal disease, also known as gum disease, is a prevalent condition that can significantly impact your smile and overall well-being. If you're experiencing symptoms of gum disease, scaling and root planing in Rockledge, FL, is a vital treatment option we offer to help restore your gums and prevent further complications.

What is Scaling and Root Planing?

Scaling and root planing, commonly called deep cleaning in dentistry, is a vital procedure designed to eliminate tartar, hardened plaque that adheres to teeth. This treatment is particularly recommended for individuals suffering from periodontitis, an advanced stage of gum disease.

During tooth scaling, tartar is meticulously removed from the visible surfaces of your teeth. Root planing goes further, targeting the roots below the gum line to ensure thorough cleaning and promote gum reattachment.

Red, inflamed, or swollen gums

Gums that bleed easily during brushing or flossing

Persistent bad breath

Loose teeth

Tenderness in the gums

Importance of Scaling and Root Planing

Gum disease can lead to serious oral health issues if left untreated. It can cause gum inflammation, bleeding, and eventually tooth loss. You can prevent these complications by undergoing scaling and root planing in Rockledge, FL, and maintaining a healthy mouth. Benefits of scaling and root planing include:

  • Prevention of Tooth Loss: By removing harmful bacteria and plaque, scaling and root planing helps prevent the progression of gum disease, which can lead to tooth loss.
  • Reduction of Gum Inflammation: This treatment reduces swelling and bleeding of the gums, promoting overall gum health.
  • Improvement of Breath: Removing bacteria and plaque below the gum line helps eliminate bad breath caused by gum disease.
  • Better Overall Health: Good oral health is linked to overall health, reducing the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other conditions.

Scaling and Root Planing Procedure at Sunflower Dental Spa

Scaling and root planning is a relatively straightforward procedure. Here's what you can expect during your visit:

  • Consultation: Our dentist will discuss your symptoms and dental history during your initial consultation. We will also perform a thorough oral examination to assess the severity of your gum disease. Based on this evaluation, we will determine if scaling and root planing are your proper actions.
  • Local Anesthesia: For your comfort, we may use local anesthesia to numb the treated area.
  • Scaling: We will use specialized ultrasonic instruments or manual scalers to remove plaque and tartar buildup from above and below the gum line.
  • Root Planing: After scaling, we will smooth out the rough surfaces of the tooth roots. This helps prevent plaque and tartar from reattaching to the teeth and promotes gum tissue reattachment.
  • Antibiotics: Sometimes, your dentist may prescribe antibiotics to combat any existing infection.
  • Aftercare Instructions: We will provide detailed instructions on caring for your teeth and gums after scaling and root planing.

Maintaining Healthy Gums After Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is a highly effective treatment for gum disease, but it's vital to maintain excellent oral hygiene habits to prevent future problems. Here are some essential tips:

Brush your teeth twice daily for two minutes using a soft-bristled toothbrush.

Floss at least once a day, reaching below the gum line.

Schedule regular dental checkups and cleanings, typically every six months.

Maintain a healthy diet and limit sugary foods and drinks contributing to plaque buildup.

Consider using an antimicrobial mouthwash to kill bacteria and freshen your breath.

Seriously the most kind, caring, thorough dentist I have ever been to. Dr. Wetmore was kind and attentive to my anxiety while at the same time making sure I was comfortable through a long drilling for a crown and very thorough making sure I was numb enough and the bite would be just right. I struggle with self care and this is the first dentist in my life where I wasn't shamed for it. And even though I was scared for the procedure I felt so safe here. Awesome place! The front desk staff, hygienist I saw and assistants were all super skilled and amazing too. Thanks ladies!

Sunflower Dental Spa is for me the FIRST Dental Office that I enjoy going to. I walk in and I am greeted by, 3 Wonderful Ladies with Beautiful Smiles. And even though they know that I can never remember their names, they know mine.
Rachel, my Dental Hygienist, took me back to begin my cleaning... Well at my last cleaning, I misunderstood something that she told me... so this time I asked her to please show me... and she did.
Once Rachel finished, she went and told my Wonderful and Most Excellent Dentist, Dr. Justin Lieneck that it was his turn to come in and check out my teeth. As Justin is checking out my teeth, I asked him, "Do the look okay? You are taking an awfully long time..."
Justin said, "I'm checking each one of them...but I don't see cavities." That isn't exactly what he said, but I can't remember word for word, like I used too.
But if you are looking for a place to go that will take care of your Teeth.... I Highly recommend Sunflower Dental Spa 🌻
Excellent team and dental care .

It’s hard to put my appreciation into words. Dr. Wetmore and her staff were so helpful and welcoming. They were able to work with my insurance and I to go from consultation to surgery in less than a month, and for half the price I was quoted from Aspen. I was very nervous going into the surgery and amount of extractions I needed but was put at ease with all of the commendations they offered. I highly recommended the laughing gas for anyone that feels the same way. The entire surgery was painless, completely painless and took about two hours. It’s now one day post op and other than some soreness I have never felt better. Sunflower dental deserves all the praise they get in these reviews. Truly an amazing experience. I am so grateful.
