Who Should Consider this Procedure?

A Single dental implant is ideal for patients who are missing a single tooth and want a long-lasting, natural-looking replacement. You may be a good candidate for a single dental implant if you:

  • Have a missing tooth: Whether due to injury, decay, or extraction, an implant can restore your smile and confidence.
  • Sufficient healthy jawbone: Adequate bone is necessary to support the implant securely.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene: Brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits help ensure the success of the implant.
  • Are in good overall health: Chronic conditions like uncontrolled diabetes or immune disorders may require consultation before proceeding.
  • Do not smoke excessively: Smoking can affect healing and implant integration, so discussing habits with your dentist is essential.
  • Want a permanent, natural solution: Implants provide a long-lasting alternative to bridges or partial dentures without affecting neighboring teeth.

What is a Single Dental Implant?

A Single dental implant is a modern, long-lasting solution for replacing a single missing tooth. Unlike traditional dentures or bridges, dental implants are anchored securely in the jawbone, providing a permanent, natural-looking replacement that mimics the appearance and function of your original tooth.

The procedure involves placing a titanium post into the jawbone, the root of a custom-made dental crown. Over time, the bone fuses with the implant, creating a strong and stable foundation. Once this fusion process is complete, a crown is placed on top, restoring the tooth's function and aesthetics.

Advantages Of Single Dental Implants

Choosing a single dental implant offers a variety of benefits compared to other tooth replacement options:

Permanent Solution

Unlike traditional dentures, dental implants provide a permanent solution for tooth replacement. Once placed, they can last for many years with proper care.

Natural Appearance

Dental implants look and feel like natural teeth, enhancing your smile with a seamless and discreet replacement. The crown will match your surrounding teeth' color, size, and shape.

Improved Function

With a dental implant, you can chew, speak, and smile without discomfort or worry. Implants provide the same strength as your natural teeth, allowing you to enjoy all your favorite foods again.

Prevention of Bone Loss

When a tooth is lost, the underlying jawbone can begin to deteriorate. Implants stimulate the bone and prevent the loss of bone density, maintaining the integrity of your facial structure.

No Need to Alter Surrounding Teeth

Unlike traditional bridges, which require the alteration of adjacent healthy teeth, a dental implant stands alone, leaving the surrounding teeth intact.

The Single Dental Implant Procedure

Here’s a step-by-step overview of what to expect during the procedure:

Consultation and Evaluation

Your first visit to Sunflower Dental Spa in Rockledge, FL, will involve a thorough consultation. We will assess the health of your teeth, gums, and jawbone. We may also take X-rays or 3D imaging to determine the best course of treatment.

Implant Placement

During the implant placement procedure, a local anesthetic is applied to ensure comfort and pain-free. The titanium post is surgically placed into the jawbone where the missing tooth once was. The post serves as the root for the new tooth and will fuse with the bone over the next few months.

Healing Period

Following the implant placement, there is a healing period of a few months to allow the bone to fuse with the implant, a process called osseointegration. This ensures the implant is firmly anchored in your jaw.

Crown Placement

Once the implant has successfully integrated with the bone, we will place a custom-made crown on top of the implant. This crown is designed to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth, providing a natural and aesthetically pleasing result.

Aftercare and Follow-Up

Once the implant and crown are in place, we will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to ensure a smooth healing process. Regular follow-up visits will help us ensure that the implant is functioning properly and that you maintain good oral hygiene.

Cost of Single Dental Implants

The cost of a Single Dental Implant can vary depending on several factors. Some patients may require additional treatments, such as bone grafting or tooth extractions, before placing the implant, which can affect the overall price. The implant and crown type also play a role; high-quality materials and custom-made crowns are designed to last longer and look more natural, influencing the cost. Additionally, each case is unique; factors such as jawbone structure, oral health, and the complexity of the procedure can also impact the final investment required for your new smile.

FAQ's

How long does a single dental implant last?

With proper care, a single dental implant can last 25 years or more, often for a lifetime. Implants are made from durable titanium posts and high-quality crowns, which integrate with your jawbone for long-term stability.

Can I get a dental implant if I have bone loss?

Yes! Patients with moderate bone loss may still qualify for an implant through bone grafting or sinus lift procedures. Our experienced team at Sunflower Dental Spa evaluates your jawbone and designs a customized plan to ensure a strong foundation for your implant.

How long does the healing process take?

Healing and osseointegration, where the implant fuses with the jawbone, usually takes 3 to 6 months. During this time, we monitor your progress to ensure the implant is stable and healthy before placing the permanent crown.

Does insurance cover single dental implants?

Many dental insurance plans provide partial coverage for implants, particularly if they are medically necessary. Our team can review your plan, provide a detailed cost estimate, and help you maximize your benefits for a single dental implant.

Can I eat normally after getting a single dental implant?

Initially, soft foods are recommended to avoid pressure on the treated area. Once fully healed, implants function like natural teeth, allowing you to eat, chew, and speak comfortably without restrictions.

How do I care for my single dental implant?

Caring for your implant is similar to caring for natural teeth: brush twice daily, floss regularly, and attend routine dental checkups. Avoid excessive force on the implant, and let our team guide you on maintaining optimal oral health.

Can I get a single dental implant if I have gum disease?

Active gum disease must be treated before implant placement. Healthy gums are crucial for implant success. We provide comprehensive periodontal care to prepare your mouth for a safe and successful implant procedure.

How soon can I get a single dental implant after tooth extraction?

In many cases, implants can be placed immediately after extraction, depending on bone health and the condition of surrounding tissues. Our team evaluates your case and recommends the best timeline for optimal results.

Seriously the most kind, caring, thorough dentist I have ever been to. Dr. Wetmore was kind and attentive to my anxiety while at the same time making sure I was comfortable through a long drilling for a crown and very thorough making sure I was numb enough and the bite would be just right. I struggle with self care and this is the first dentist in my life where I wasn't shamed for it. And even though I was scared for the procedure I felt so safe here. Awesome place! The front desk staff, hygienist I saw and assistants were all super skilled and amazing too. Thanks ladies!

Sunflower Dental Spa is for me the FIRST Dental Office that I enjoy going to. I walk in and I am greeted by, 3 Wonderful Ladies with Beautiful Smiles. And even though they know that I can never remember their names, they know mine.
Rachel, my Dental Hygienist, took me back to begin my cleaning... Well at my last cleaning, I misunderstood something that she told me... so this time I asked her to please show me... and she did.
Once Rachel finished, she went and told my Wonderful and Most Excellent Dentist, Dr. Justin Lieneck that it was his turn to come in and check out my teeth. As Justin is checking out my teeth, I asked him, "Do the look okay? You are taking an awfully long time..."
Justin said, "I'm checking each one of them...but I don't see cavities." That isn't exactly what he said, but I can't remember word for word, like I used too.
But if you are looking for a place to go that will take care of your Teeth.... I Highly recommend Sunflower Dental Spa 🌻
Excellent team and dental care .
Very nice and informative .
Doctor Justin and Diane are awesome.

It’s hard to put my appreciation into words. Dr. Wetmore and her staff were so helpful and welcoming. They were able to work with my insurance and I to go from consultation to surgery in less than a month, and for half the price I was quoted from Aspen. I was very nervous going into the surgery and amount of extractions I needed but was put at ease with all of the commendations they offered. I highly recommended the laughing gas for anyone that feels the same way. The entire surgery was painless, completely painless and took about two hours. It’s now one day post op and other than some soreness I have never felt better. Sunflower dental deserves all the praise they get in these reviews. Truly an amazing experience. I am so grateful.
